When Abby Hanlon was a kid, she liked to talk to herself and make up stories. She played imaginatively long past the age considered normal. As an adult, she discovered that becoming a teacher was the perfect way to re-enter the world of childhood.

Abby has a master's degree in childhood education from the City College of New York and a bachelor's from Barnard College. Abby has taught creative writing and first grade in the New York City public school system. Her debut picture book, Ralph Tells a Story (2012), is widely used by elementary school teachers.

Her subsequent book, Dory Fantasmagory (2014) is a Golden Kite Honor Book for Fiction, an American Library Association Notable Book, and a Scholastic book club selection. It was named a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and Parent's Magazine.

The sequel, Dory and The Real True Friend (2015), won a 2015 Cybil award. The first two Dory books will be published in sixteen languages. The third book, Dory Dory Black Sheep will be released September 2016. All three books are Junior Library Guild selections.

Abby lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband and two children.

Abby Hanlon is represented by Elena Giovinazzo.
