I was raised in the North Carolina triangle, which is a less tropical cousin to the Bermuda Triangle, and where, as a middle-schooler I twice lost both my top and bottom retainers, obviously due to the strange and mystical properties of areas with the name “triangle” in them.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism, I moved to New York City where I created print and television work for Reebok, Nike, the NFL, Nerf, the Library of Congress, the Bronx Zoo, Nickelodeon and many, many other people, places and, or things.

My first baby, Jonah, was born six months before my second baby, Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib (Dial). Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib was named the Marion Vannett Ridgway Honor Book for debut author’s and illustrators. Jonah was named A Very Cute Baby by people who like cute babies who passed him on the street.

My second book, Thank You, Octopus (Dial) arrived this year and has been called “A maritime – and bedtime – delight,” (Kirkus) and a good reason for parents to stay home and read books with their children (the New York Times).

I am currently perfecting my Korean pronunciation of “another cappuccino, please,” in Seoul, South Korea, where I live, make books, jog and eat bibimbop with Jonah and my wife, Caroline.
